Gifted Young Players

At Victoria House in Lyme Regis we have a few simple objectives for our recorder courses: the very best tutors, relaxed and friendly accommodation, good food, good company and a great location.

We run recorder courses at all levels from beginners to Diploma for around 10 - 12 players with some of the best tutors from around the world.  We welcome many non-playing spouses and partners on our courses, who enjoy the surroundings and the warm and friendly atmosphere.

We have 20 public courses booked for 2014, as well as a few private ones, and we try to suit most tastes and abilities.  Have a look at the list of 2014 courses and we do hope you can find one that suits you.  We've almost finalised our course programme for 2015, so you may want to have a look at the list of 2015 courses to see what is available.

For 2014 we are pleased to welcome back Matthias Maute in December, who will be coming over from Canada specially for the course.  Our new course on Conducting & Playing with Eileen Silcocks in March was a great success and we will be running it again in June 2015.

Another innovation for 2014 was our course for Gifted Young Players up to the age of 18, led by Tom Beets of the Flanders Recorder Quartet.  This was fully funded through our collaboration with the Walter Bergmann Fund, and we are very pleased that we are able to repeat this course in 2015.  WBF will not be able to fund this after 2015, so we are looking for other ways to fund this fantastic opportunity for some of our best young players.  Any ideas or donations would be very gratefully received!

A full day includes 4 one and a half hour sessions.  The early part of each afternoon is free for relaxation, exploring Lyme Regis or informal recorder playing.  Please look at the 'more information' page for each course for details of specific start and finish times.
